YEARS 7–10

Welcome from the Deputy Head (Academic)

At Brighton College (Singapore), we pride ourselves on developing a lifelong love of learning in our pupils. We promote a rich and stimulating learning environment whereby pupils become intellectually curious, confident and kind learners with the skills and attitudes to be successful life-long achievers.

We pride ourselves on our innovative curriculum. Our passionate and knowledgeable teachers have designed an academically rigorous and stimulating curriculum which engages, challenges and supports our pupils within the classroom and beyond. As pupils progress in their academic journey towards IGCSE and A-levels, they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to tackle the challenges of 21st Century learning.

We look forward to welcoming you and your child into our dynamic and innovative Senior School and we wish them the very best on their academic journey.

Preparing for Life

We ensure all our pupils are equipped with the necessary life skills required for them to tackle the challenges of the 21st Century. In lessons, pupils learn how to learn, how to study, how to revise for exams and how to prepare for the future at university and beyond.

Connections for Life

Our pupils have a lifelong connection to Brighton College and we are proud to invite our graduates to become part of the Brighton Alumni, Old Brightonians Network, with over 8,500 members worldwide. All graduates can join the Brighton College Connect, a global networking platform that has a vibrant community of thousands of past pupils and staff for professional networking and reconnection. The Old Brightonians network also offers a wide range of active sports clubs, formal dinners, societies and events.

Senior School Distinctions

In our Senior School, Distinctions are awarded by teachers for excellent attainment or effort. Pupils may qualify for a distinction as acknowledgement of their personal progress or effort. Effort certificates are then awarded for the accumulation of Distinctions; Bronze (20), Silver (40), Gold (80), Platinum (120) and Diamond (150).

Effort certificates are awarded in assemblies and end of year presentation assemblies.

There are additional awards given in the Senior School to celebrate our pupils’ successes: Achiever of the Term Awards, Head of College’s Certificates and Departmental prizes.

Leadership roles

Numerous leadership roles are available for pupils across the College. In Senior School, we appoint a Head Boy and Head Girl; these are exceptional pupils who epitomise the Brighton values of kindness, curiosity and confidence. We also appoint Prefects, House Captains and Subject Ambassadors who help to guide our younger pupils and set a positive example. All our leadership roles are rotated each term to encourage opportunities for all pupils to lead.

Throughout the College, we appoint School Council representatives from each class to sit on the School Council. In Senior School, the Head Boy and Head Girl chair the School Council and listen to pupil feedback in order to make improvements to the College.

We also appoint Well-being Ambassadors in the Senior School, who work alongside the Pelican Pals in Prep School. Their aim is to enhance pupil well-being and encourage acts of kindness.

PSHME

Personal, Social, Health and Moral Education (PSHME)

Our Personal, Social, Health and Moral Education (PSHME) curriculum teaches pupils the skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. We ensure our pupils are provided with the knowledge and skills to be confident in making good decisions, regardless of what others may expect.

In Senior School, pupils have weekly PSHME sessions, which are taught thematically. These themes are also explored within our assemblies. Lessons allow for discussion and reflection on many topics, such as relationships, how to stay safe and how to keep healthy.
