SENIOR SCHOOL • BEYOND THE CLASSROOM • THE PERFORMING ARTS
The Performing Arts play a vital important role at Brighton College (Singapore). Whether taking dance lessons, singing in the choir, playing in a rock band, competing in our Music House competitions or taking centre stage in one of our many productions, we encourage pupils to get involved in the Performing Arts. This is because they provide a wonderful opportunity to develop their skills outside of the classroom, grow in confidence and learn to express themselves thoughtfully and creatively.
Dance is a vital component of our curriculum. It not only promotes physical fitness but also encourages creativity, self-expression, and teamwork among our pupils. Pupils partake in a variety of dance styles, which aim to enhance their coordination, rhythm and confidence. Engaging in dance contributes significantly to a child’s social and emotional development, fostering resilience and a sense of belonging. Furthermore, it allows pupils to explore cultural diversity through different forms of dance, promoting an appreciation for various dance traditions from around the world.
At Brighton College (Singapore) Drama builds personal confidence and empowers pupils to explore their creativity. In addition to the IGCSE course, we stage performances throughout the year, host playwriting competitions, arrange theatre visits and offer LAMDA lessons (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts). This means that any pupil can participate in Drama, even if they are pursuing it as an academic option.
Within Music, we pride ourselves on the full inclusiveness of what the subject can offer. There are a series of musical events throughout the year, including concerts, festivals, musical shows, House competitions, workshops, outside competitions and visits. Experienced specialist instrumental teachers come in to support the programme from week to week, offering an individual service, which a majority of pupils are now involved in. This in turn helps the College with its full musical CCA programme, such as the various choirs, instrumental ensembles and orchestra. We even have a choir for parents!
The best way to experience what life is like at Brighton College is to join us at an Open House, where you will have the chance to talk to pupils and teachers about what makes our school such a special place, and to answer any questions you have about life here.
